THE COMMUNITY CAFÉ

Tuesday Nov, 22 2011

11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

The Community Café is a monthly meal ministry being offered to meet the needs of our church neighbors, friends and members who are in need of and desire a time of fellowship and food.  Everyone is welcome!  The meals offered through this ministry are TOTALLY FREE.

All are invited to join us on the fourth Tuesday of each month, beginning Tuesday, February 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for a healthy, delicious hot meal homemade by the members of our congregation. Our first meal will consist of baked ziti, sauce and meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and hot and cold drinks. Meals will be served family style at round tables in the Sanctuary.  Reservations are suggested, but are not required, by calling the church office at 610-869-9334 or email wgumc@verizon.net. Walk-ins are welcome.

In addition to a free hot meal each month, the Prayer Room will be open and our Health Ministries Team will be available with monthly free screenings and associated health tips.

Grocery Store Gift Cards

Increase your weekly giving without costing a cent.  Giant Gift Cards are sold for face value, but the church purchases the cards at a 5% discount.  So, for every $100 in gift cards that are purchased, the church gets $5.00.  Complete the order form in the lobby, attach your check, and drop it in the offering plate.  Gift Cards arrive within 5 days of placing the order and will be distributed on Sunday.

United Methodist Women

The Faith Circle: Meets on the third Friday of the month from 9:30 to 11:00 am in the conference room. We would love to have new members join us. We continue to focus our mission on helping the homeless shelters run by The Meeting Ground. There are 5 permanent shelters and a rotating church shelter as well.

We have been making “ugly” or functional quilts. We have been fortunate not to have to buy supplies, but depend on donations of old blankets, drapes, fabrics, etc. Which we then remake into quilts. We also collect soda can pull tabs and cancelled stamps. They could also use blankets, disposable razor coupons, and school supplies. If you have any questions, please contact Karen Boyd at klboyd@zoominternet.net.

The Women in Action Circle: Meets on the last Monday of the month, 10 am-11:30 am in Room 15 at the church. We are collecting items to donate to the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County. Each month we collect something different. Our collection bin is in the lobby. June-August: Toilet Paper.

UMCOR Coffee Project

Coffee and tea is now available for your individual purchase. Please visit the table in the lobby where we are continuing to support fairly traded products through UMCOR's partnership with the Equal Exchange Interfaith Program. We have coffees and teas available for purchase and now have small packages of chocolates for sale. Brochures and order forms are available in the church lobby. UMCOR receives a percentage of our sales so we appreciate your interest and orders.

HELP FARMERS EARN A FAIR INCOME through the UMCOR Coffee Project in partnership with Equal Exchange. The UMCOR Coffee Project is a way to help people in need while enjoying an excellent cup of coffee, tea, cocoa, or chocolate. As Christians we can buy products that are fairly traded and support practices that help farmers in Latin America, Africa and Asia earn a fairer share of income. MISSIONS is committed to supporting the UMCOR Coffee Project which also provides some income to UMCOR by purchasing coffee, tea, cocoa and chocolates and making them available for your purchase, as well as insuring that these items are served at church events and coffee fellowship. If you are interested in purchasing a case of one of these products, we will continue to order these items when four cases are ordered in order to take advantage of free shipping. Look for order forms and the products for sale on the Missions Counter in the Church Lobby.
